Description: Elementary questions about electronics.

photodetectors and photoresistor
Photosensors or photodetectors are sensors of light or other electromagnetic energy. There are several varieties: • Optical detectors, which are mostly quantum devices in which an individual photon produces a discrete effect. photoresistor A photoresistor or Light Dependent Resistor or CdS Cell is a resistor... more »

Simple voltage question
I'm trying to get a steady 5 volts from a 6 volt battery. The 5v will power a circuit that draws a variable amount of current (between 70 and 100 ma). I've used LM7805 in the past but I know they need more then just one volt difference. I do have a 1/2watt 5 volt zener I could use but I can't seem to get... more »

who knows about noises?
hi every body I have a signal generator thak works with 555 sometimes I see a a noise like digital FM that I think it from 50hz 220 (network voltage) what i can do to remove it I dont know even when it comes may be its the malfunction of breadboard but this my problem the output square wave wavelenght decrease and... more »

Electronics
Electronics refers to the flow of charge (electron) through non-metal conductors (often called semi-conductors), where as electrical refers to the flow of charge through metal conductors. For example, flow of charge through silicon which is not a metal would come under electronics whereas flow of charge through copper which is a metal... more »

Latchup? RS-485 receivers
I have a project where the input of an RS-485 receiver can have voltage on it before the main power supply comes on. My project has worked well in the past when my cable's bus voltage was 12v and I used some 12v to 5vDC Astrodyne DC-DC converters. I am now using a cable bus voltage of 48vDC and some MeanWell DC-DC... more »

TV with short circuit - how do I find the short?
A friend of mine gave me an old 27 inch TV that no longer works. Upon inspection of the insides, I noticed the "5A 125V GMA" fuse was blown. I purchased a 10 pack of these fuses, and when I replaced it the fuse blew as soon as the TV was plugged in again. I am assuming that there is a short circuit on the board somewhere. How would I go about finding the short? Is... more »

Switch Question
I haven't done any electronics in years so please excuse the simple question. Google made me confused. A device has two three-wire ribbon cables. I want to put an On-Off-On two-position switch on the cables that functions like this: 1) The same circuit as the uncut cables AAA --- AAA BBB --- BBB... more »

Inflated PMPO figures
How do some manufacturers of audio amps arrive at the ridiculously high PMPO ratings they give for their products? E.g., an amp with a true 20-watt output may be rated at more than 1000 watts PMPO. (Please, let's not get sidetracked into how there's no such thing as RMS power - call it continuous power or... more »
